Asynchronous JAVA Script and XML (AJAX)

AJAX is a group of interrelated web development techniques. It is used for the creation of interactive web applications. This kind of programming increases the functionality, interactivity, responsiveness, speed and usability of the web pages being developed. These can be achieved by exchanging small amounts of data with the server behind the scenes. The purpose of this so-called hidden function is for the web page to work without the need refresh or reload it each time the user performs an action. Here is the breakdown of the different elements:

• "A" in AJAX is asynchronous, meaning unsynchronized. The program is unsynchronized in such a manner that extra data is requested from the server and then loaded unto the background without affecting the webpage.
• "JA" in AJAX is JAVA Script, of course. This is the scripting or programming language used in the underlying software.
• "X" in AJAX is XML which refers to the XML HTTP request object that is used in data retrieval.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

CSS is a stylesheet language that is used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. This is commonly used to style or enhance web pages written in HTML or XHTML codes. This stylesheet language can be applied to any kind of XML-based document.

CSS helps web page readers to define the colors, fonts, layouts, etc. of the document presentation.

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

HTML is a markup language for web pages. This computer language provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document, and to supplement the text with embedded images, interactive forms, etc. HTML is written in the form of tags and may include scripting language codes that can affect the behavior of web browsers and HTML processors.

JavaServer Pages (JSP)

This is a JAVA-based technology that allows software developers to dynamically generate HTML, XML and / or other types of documents in response to a Web Client's request. This kind of technology allows the JAVA code to be embedded into static content.
