In related fields, JAVA Expertise (JAVA EE or JAVA Platform, Enterprise Edition) is one of the most widely used application platforms for server programming written in the JAVA programming language. This platform has its own set of libraries that provide functionality to deploy distributed, fault-tolerant and multi-tiered JAVA software.

Other JAVA programming language based servers include: J2EE (also an application platform for server programming), J2ME (JAVA Platform, Micro Edition - a subset of the Java platform), and J2SE (or JAVA Platform, Standard Edition - used to deploy portable applications for general usage.)
